Piano Trio in Düsseldorf

I am delighted to announce the forthcoming performances of my piano trio Kammerdialog. A Conversation with Violin, Cello, and Piano, which will be played multiple times on 9 and 10 July as part of the Tage der Kammermusik series at Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf. The piece already dates from 2008, but has been performed in public only twice (also some years ago). So I am lucky to enjoy the support of some talented musicians, cellist Inés Bueno López and violinist Enrique Carlsson, with whom I will share the stage on two consecutive days, with two respective performances of the trio in either concert. Cordial invitation implied!

  • Saturday, 9 July 2022, from 7 pm: in a programme with piano trios by Beethoven and Clara Schumann
  • Sunday, 10 July 2022, from 11 am: alongside more piano trios by Haydn and Shostakovich

Board Elections at DTKV Berlin

Happy to announce that I have been re-elected as vice president of Deutscher Tonkünstlerverband Berlin. I am looking forward to shaping the future of the association together with my fellow board members: Simon Borutzki, Liz Franzen, Alf Schulze, Agnes Stein von Kamienski, Jens Domeyer, and Anne Uerlichs. Many thanks to everybody who recently contributed to the new orientation and professionalisation of our work! New members are always welcome—please get in touch if interested.

Improvements in Association Work

Preparing this year’s general assembly of Deutscher Tonkünstlerverband Berlin, which is going to take place at the end of March. In a very productive period during the last six months, we achieved a number of milestones in the course of modernising the leadership and administration of Berlin’s largest association for musicians and music pedagogues: we passed new statutes and rules of internal procedure, launched a cloud-based administrative software and membership portal, redesigned our public relations strategy, and initiated a number of new collaborations with other organisations. The current board members, including myself as vice president, will now run for another term in office. Despite some forces aiming to prevent us from continuing our work, we are confident to keep on advocating for the interests of our freelance members and their professional representation.

Next Steps at DTKV Berlin

It’s been a fruitful week for Deutscher Tonkünstlerverband Berlin. After a joint meeting with Christian Höppner last Monday, discussing perspectives of cultural politics and professional representation of freelance musicians in Berlin together with my colleague Simon Borutzki, we had a very productive general assembly yesterday. The participating members showed high commitment in running for and electing new delegates for Landesmusikrat Berlin, initiative neue musik, and the DTKV federal delegate assembly. Moreover, they decided unanimously to pass a new statute that will allow digital communication and virtual meetings, and facilitate member participation and decision-making for the future. Looking forward very much to the activities and challenges to come!

Bach and Reger Piano Transcriptions

First appearance as a pianist in quite a while! I will contribute to a concert of Deutscher Tonkünstlerverband on the following Tuesday, 16 November, 8 pm, at Schwartzsche Villa Berlin-Steglitz. I’ll be performing two of my own piano transcriptions: Aria and Fughetta after Bach’s Drum schließ ich mich in deine Hände from BWV 229, and an abundantly ornamented version of Reger’s beautiful Nachtlied, Op. 138 No. 3. Apart from that, there will be music by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Strauss, Scriabin, and others. Meeting some amiable people would be so much of a delight!
